Update on 1/1/13:
We came back from a lovely trip to Liz and Pete to find one baby chick had gone missing (the tiny little head in the photo above). So sad as it must have wandered off and fallen prey to a crow or so.
Anyway, today I managed to buy a safe temporary nursery cage for the dedicated mum and her baby. It only needs some wheels and can be our mobile chicken tractor in future.
As the hen is still broody, I candled the eggs and removed the obvious bad ones (only one egg looks like a possible bird) and sneaked some new eggs under here. She will likely abandon them but if not I thought it was worth the go. 21 days to count down now....
