Picking up where I left my last post.
Dot's foal came home but not for long. She got an umbilical cord infection and needed four injections a day to fight this very serious condition. However the little one didn't want to know about it and we decided to take them to the vet.
After a week at the vets all was under control and the "orange" foal was allowed to come home.
By now she also has a name "double Dutch dyonah".
The week following was great with the two foals happily together in the paddock but then came the thunderstorms.
Fatima got a fright in her stable and in her panicky response she slammed poor missy into the stable wall twice and then trampled over her to get out of the stable.
Poor missy was sore but appeared not too badly damaged. Appearance was deceiving as a week later, missy was in hospital for surgery.
Another week of injectable antibiotics and she was allowed home. She needs to be stabled and her leg was massively swollen.
Since then , we have had two more incidents but seem to have finally arranged the stable set up to please Fatima and keep her calm.
The leg has shrunk by 50% but the vet was not too pleased when he came out this week. Another week or so of rest and then x-rays to check for internal damage. The wait makes you anxious!
At least missy appears not in pain and is always happy to see you, even if that is with more syringes with oral antibiotics and vitamin concentrates.
She even is getting naughty and rearing in her stable. You wish you could just strap them down and wrap them in bubble wrap :-)
Well outside of the horse dramas things are just generally busy. Work deadlines and so on.
But just one more week till Christmas holidays.
I apologise to everyone as I had intended to send some beautiful creative photo christmas cards but that just didn't happen.
